 Opera Pro Cantanti - Opera For the Singers

     

Opera Pro Cantanti is Canada's only repertory opera company.* 

We perform on Sunday evenings, with occasional special performances on Saturday evenings. Most performances take place at the Cambrian Hall, but we can occasionally be seen at other venues throughout the Lower Mainland. Keep your eye on our Performance Schedule, so you don't miss one of our performances!

    

We perform our own productions of Verdi's La Traviata, Rigoletto, Macbeth and Nabucco. Donizetti's Lucia di Lammermoor, and Bellini's Norma.  

Opera Pro Cantanti always performs with traditional sets and costumes, created by the company members themselves.

Some of our lead singers are established professional singers, but our roster also includes company members who came to sing chorus, but proved capable of taking on some of the most demanding roles in all of opera. Amazing progress is possible when singers have the opportunity to perform so frequently!

You can hear some of the best voices in Canada on our stage! Singers who would be valued in opera houses all over the world (and some of them have been!). You will be amazed at what you hear and see.
 

*Repertory Opera - Most opera companies perform one opera at a time; rehearsing for several weeks, then performing that opera 3 to 5 times. Once the performances are over, the production shuts down and the company moves on to the next opera. Opera in repertory works very differently. The operas are rehearsed and performed at the same time, alternating with the other operas chosen for that season. This means the company can perform any number of operas at a given time. The only limitation is whether or not the singers who have prepared the roles are available for a particular date. OPC assigns several singers to the same role whenever possible, which is what allows us to perform these operas so many times through the year.



$20 general admission, $15 students and seniors.
